Of the 44 entrants for the 2009 Scale Model Build Contest, Round 2, held March 11-May 11, 2009, 13 builders finished their models (page 1 of this article), 19 participated but were unable to meet the deadline (page 2), and 12 never started. After two months of building and posting progress weekly via the Forums, the deadline has come and it is time to start picking a winner. The 13 entries on this page, below, will be eligible winners, since these builders completed their model build(s) and posted pictures of the builds in their completed state, by the deadline. Please VOTE below! You may clear your cache and vote over and over again. Like Round 1, expect magazine coverage for Round 2. No specific details have been established for Round 3 yet.
1994 Nissan Hardbody
This Nissan Hardbody certainly seems to be a rarer build! Stock floor body dropped over 22 inch Dub Vistas, how could you not be impressed? This clean build will certainly be popular among Mini Truckers, and will be a competitive player in Round 2.
With comments such as, "Thanks for raising the bar so high that none of us can reach it, that is one of the sharpest models i have ever seen in my life," and "You're putting us all to shame," perhaps we should kick this guy out right now! The real truck on which this model is based looks just as amazing!
2000 Chevy Astro Van
1990 Toyota Hilux
1985 Datsun 720
Major props to Daniel, who completed 3 out of 4 builds attempted! The fourth was not finished because it encountered some specific hardships that made the project unrecoverable. His builds include a vintage bus, a mini van, and a Datsun 720. We can appreciate this combination of unique builds! Unfortunately, the truck that didn't reach completion was the "Last Look" truck, which would have been awesome to see!
This blue Silverado features right hand drive. While we do not have many details on this model, we like the direction it took!
2012 Concept Mini
Known for breaking the mold and busting into unchartered territory, Josh Smith decided to build a 2012 Concept Mini Truck from scratch, stating that, "I thought it would be more simple to just build my own rather then modify some other dudes design." With the body built from styrene sheets and the frame from various sizes of styrene tubing, Josh went on to build an Enzo Ferrari mid-engine powered mini on 26s, shaved, stock floor body dropped, and styled to the max with upside down Escalade headlights. What can we say, besides welcome to the future of mini truckin'.
Despite being a new dad, Danny found time to complete this rare D-50. Featuring a metallic green paint, custom bed floor, and much more, we applaud the time and effort put into this build.
1992 Toyota Hilux
This builder picked up the pace at the last minute, declaring that "I think it will be like a last minute sema all-nighter." Isn't that the truth! This right hand drive hilux has a sliding ragtop, 20s, a full molded interior, and more. This is an all-around clean truck!
Matt built a super clean '41 Chevy, and then, in the spare time after that, a matching 454SS Chevy. Based on his huge collection of previous builds, we know why Matt's trucks turned out so clean! His two-tone combination of flat black and Chevy true blue on the '41 make for a super clean and sharp shop truck.
1993 Ford Ranger
Scott's 1993 Ford Ranger features a blown 429 Ford engine, stock floor body drop, air ride, a '59 Impala dash, and more. Most notably, his true fire custom paint job sets this mini apart, and just might remind you of a past Mini Truckin' Ranger feature. Complete with a mini dude to drive, Scott's Ranger is clearly sick. He'd like to thank his daughter Shelby for directing the build and giving him pointers (instead of smashing it).
2006 Dodge Magnum
This builder decided to make a Ghost Busters Ecto 1 2006 Dodge Magnum. The beautiful thing about this contest is that you can make such creative ideas come true! Like the original car, this one also has the Ghost Busters equipment on top of the car.
1985 Chevy S10
This builder states that he didn't go crazy on the mods, and that he will be tearin' it up in Round 3. However, the clean and simple trucks did very well last round. We applaud the fact that he posted finished pictures, and definitely can't wait to see what he comes up with for Round 3. Congratulations to him and his wife for the newest member of his family, born April 8th. Even though he had an awesome excuse not to finish, he still did.
1996 Chevy S10 SS
This builder was using a computer library to update his thread, at least for a while! Now THAT is dedication! He completed his build and it looks great. Major props for his dedication!
Justin M. Rogers
1998 Chevy S10 Xtreme
This roadstered "Go-Mango" colored S10 has more mods than we can count! With diligent updates and many build pictures, this S10 bring a distinctive style that is going to heat up the competition.
