Chrome And Candy
Randy Hewett of Fayetteville, North Carolina, would really like to see his '97 Chevy S-10 pickup truck in an issue of Mini Truckin' magazine. Since Randy has been reading Mini Truckin', he has fallen prey to the disease and started working on customizing his ride. He has added 22-inch chrome Pacer rims wrapped in 245/30R22 Kumho tires, a Phantom grille with clear corners lights in front, and LED taillights in the rear. Randy lowered his truck 5 inches all the way around and finished the truck with candy-apple paint and tinted windows. Additions to the interior include a 7-inch Jensen flip-out head unit, a PlayStation 2 game system running through a Rockford 350 Punch amplifier, and an Infinity 12-inch subwoofer.
Keepin' It Gangsta
Just when you thought small wire wheels and a crushed velvet interior were a thing of the past on a minitruck, leave it to Patrick Rioux of Monroe, Mississippi, to take it back. He found this gem of a truck on the side of the road for $300, but there was one catch: no motor. Not thinking this was going to be a problem, he bought the truck and set out to find a motor. A year later, he found a motor out of a '95 Dodge D-50 and dropped it into his truck. From there, he started shaving the truck with the help of his friend, Rico. He had it painted House of Kolor Cobalt Blue Kandy and bolted on some 14-inch Daytons. Inside the truck, he went wild and wrapped everything in black and blue crushed velvet.
Tough Luv
It's not every day that you find a time capsule like this one. Patrick Raynor of Bailey, Colorado, is definitely an OG-no, double OG-no, triple OG with his '72 Chevy Luv. Patrick built the truck in the early '70s, about the time that the sport of minitruckin' was starting to catch on. He started by ditching the original drivetrain and dropped in a 355ci small-block running through a Turbo 400 transmission, and laying power on the ground via a narrowed 10-bolt rearend. A custom-made 30-gallon gas tank was mounted under the bed, along with side pipes that open up the breathing abilities. Patrick overlooked giving us the details on the exterior, but it looks like he molded in the fender flares, dropped the front end, added a SnugTop shell, lowered the front end for the popular, raked look, and attached a set of Vector mag wheels.
Young Buck
At 19 years old, Ben Mendoza has carried as many as three jobs to help in funding the buildup on his '92 Ford Ranger. He lowered the truck 4 inches with the help of a DJM lowering kit and shocks, and mounted a set of 17-inch American Racing wheels, which were wrapped in 205/45R17 Kumho rubber. Since then, he has added product from companies like SnugTop, K&N, MA Audio, and Sony. In the not- so-distant future, he plans on laying frame to the ground, new paint, and adding larger rolling stock.
