No, not that first time, get your minds out of the gutter, kids! I meant the first time you realized what you wanted to do for the rest of your life? For us automotive photojournalists, it's generally the very first time we saw our work published in a national magazine. It's something we all strive for! Some of us began early by tinkering with cars, cameras; or both. Then, we moved on to pick up the camera and shoot some pics for online, or free local print mags-but deep down, we always want something bigger and better. It's been a while since the first time I read my name in print. Looking back on that day, I knew that was what I always wanted to do. Sometimes the ins and outs of running a magazine, under a short deadline environment, does take its toll. But every now and then, I just pull out that first issue and smile. We've come a long way! This brings me to another first. Cody Gephart is a youngin' who has been around the scene for a while now. He films and photographs for Low Life Video and has been working on taking pictures for the past couple of years. I got with him a few months back and gave him a chance to shoot a show and a feature-to see if he had what it takes. Let me just say, when I got the pics back, I was pleasantly surprised. He spent a lot of time on the photo shoot and even wrote the story to go along with the feature shoot.
Be sure to check out the Isuzu feature in this issue, and if you happen to see Cody around the show circuit, grab him a beer. Oh wait, he's not even old enough to drink yet! But, he is old enough to enjoy his very first feature published in a national magazine. Congratulations, buddy, you did an awesome job.
