It's unfortunate that there's no worldwide stage for putting all the best minis from across the planet in one place at one time. That would be sweet, right? It would be like every awesome show all rolled into one and everybody could participate, no matter where you're from. It would be epic.

If that hypothetical show would ever happen and if Mr. Thomas Tatton showed up with his '93 Toyota Hi-Lux ex-cab, most of the competition could pack up their things and go on their way. See, Thomas' truck is about as clean as they get, from top to bottom. Everything is chromed, smoothed, or painted. And speaking of the paint, that retina-searing color is spectacular to take in.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves, so let's back it up a touch and talk about how this whole thing came to be. Thirteen years ago, Thomas found himself on vacation in Hawaii. He was an impressionable 17-year-old kid at the time, and man, did the mini truck scene impress him. After a quick stop at a local bookstore, he found a copy of Mini Truckin' in his hand and a permanent place in his heart for all things low and cool. When he got back home, he bought himself a Nissan 720 and got to work. Those were good times.

Back in 1998, when beepers were still standard issue for the cool kids and people were wrapped about everyone's 'A/S/L' on AOL, Thomas found this '93 Toyota HiLux for sale. Cash changed hands and soon he was lowering the truck, painting it white, and cruising it all day long. A year later, the truck was torn apart and bodydropped, then a coat of a relatively tame green was laid over the exterior. It was feature worthy—so much so that we ran a feature on the truck way back in 2007. It was an excellent example of a clean and show-worthy vehicle. And that's exactly why he tore it all down and started fresh.

OK, the motivation was really because of the feature. The truck had staked its claim, and it was definitely cool, but now he wanted to strip it down to a bare frame and build something that would turn some heads in another way. So that's what he did. Take a look at the bridge, where the tubing blends seamlessly into the rest of the chassis. Or the interior, where the seams are perfect and the details are everywhere, and under the deluxe 22R underhood with a ton of chrome and billet accents. And of course, there's that paint. It's two shades of green from a '70 and '71 'Cuda, respectively. It's quite the finish. This truck has a lot going on, and it cleans up at every show it attends.

So here we are, two features deep for Thomas and his little Toyota that could. What's next? Well let's not debate that right now. Instead, let's hope that hypothetical 'world show' can actually happen, and that Thomas will take his truck. Hopefully, he'll be passing out shades so we can look at it without getting flash burn.

And that's exactly why he tore it all down and started fresh.
