Dig through your back issues and pluck out the April 2011 edition of MT, and you'll find a blue Nissan Hardbody inside that was built by Randall Ruth titled, Seasoned Vet. At that point, Randall had built himself a sweet little cruiser, complete with lots of body mods and a bodydrop, and nothing could stop him from going further. Except for the car that used the Nissan as a pinball, that is.

See, all was good in the hood, but the truck ended up taking a hit in the driver's side, which totaled it out completely. Randall could've just cashed out and moved on to the next project, but he had a lot invested in this project, so he couldn't just bail because of a few dents. Bet you know where this story is going, don't you?

With new parts in hand, Randall welded up some stuff and started bolting things back together. But the further he got into the process, the more he realized what really needed to be given attention, like the frame, for example. Man, did it look bad just sitting there all black and boring. And then there was the engine; not enough shine or pretty enough. And since he had to paint most of the side anyways, he might as well change up the whole paint job with graphics, right?

So Randall, the seasoned vet (see what happened there?), tore into the truck all over again. What started out as a quick resto job turned into a full-blown rebuild, and you can see how sweet the results are.

Now that's not to say that everything is perfect. If he were to do it all over again, Randall would swap out the motor for something different, maybe one with more horsepower or cylinders. But you know, Randall's had this truck since people were hoarding canned goods for Y2K, which means he's rather dedicated to the truck. It also means that come the next time around—and you know there will be a next time—he'll have that new motor and maybe a few other things as well. After all, he's got to have something to look forward to.
