As men, we’re predominantly cursed with piss-poor relationships. It’s our own fault though. We latch onto anything that we can put our wick into and then wonder why the whole affair blows up in our face. Before you go and drown your sorrows though, there is a glimmer of hope for all of us sewn into the story of Jeffrey and Penny Madden.

I know what you’re thinking: Oh please, I’ve heard the story of the supportive girl before, to which I retort, no, you haven’t. Not like this.

Jeffrey picked up the Mighty Max off of Craigslist a few years ago and worked with Brand-X Customs to get the truck ’bagged and bodydropped. Unfortunately, he lost his job before all of the work could be completed, and throughout that experience Jeffrey realized that if he wanted to complete the truck, he would have to do it himself.

When Jeffrey announced that he was going to enroll himself into an auto body tech course at the local community college, he was surprised when his wife told him that she was going to enroll in the auto upholstery course so she could stitch up the entire interior. Penny isn’t interested in trucks, but she made it quite clear that she was interested in supporting her husband.

As both of them worked through their courses, they came back and put their new knowledge to trial on the Mitsu. Jeffrey worked with the welder and mud to complete the body mods, while Penny worked with ’76 OEM Ford materials to piece together a unique interior. A couple of local minitruckers, Mike and Jason, gave a helping hand to finish off the bodywork and paint.

The final result is a very clean and unique build, but more importantly it’s an extraordinary reminder to the rest of us that amazing, supportive women do exist. The men who have these women should never let them go, and the men that have never experienced this type of relationship need to stop settling.
