Since when is a full-tilt detailed undercarriage mini not good enough? Well, I guess now would be the time. Before this current incarnation of Shawn Altermott of Bothell, WA's '92 Mazda B2200, he was already cleaning up at shows. I guess building his truck originally in reverse left him too much to be desired. So the choice was made: pull out all stops and go for the gold or a six-foot trophy to put in storage.
Shawn has owned a handful of minis in the past and has been a mini trucker since '89. He got his first taste of a Mini back in '95 with an '83 Mazda. Shawn even ventured off the path at one point and picked up an '89 CRX. He said "I know cars suck, but that's why I sold it". In '96 he bought what would be his current mini; a mini that would inspire mini truckers in the northwest to go even more hardcore with their rides. Shawn knew what it was going to take to get Game Over to neck-breaking proportions. With already having thrown a static drop or two on previous minis, as well as a neon kit, this would be no problem. Shawn wanted to take anything he had ever wanted to do and apply it to one truck. The goal was to keep it ultra clean and low. When Shawn's idols are mini truckers such as Billy Bob (cover truck from May '02), this sets the goals high. Yet it still gives him a strong notion of what it takes to make a Mini Truckin' cover the right way.
Mishaps do happen, especially in a build as extensive as this. After they shaved the pillars, they forgot to notch the doors. In not doing so, when they closed the door, it dented the freshly sheetmetaled pillars. Back to the drawing board, as the pillars had to be redone. Also, when the truck was in primer, someone broke into the shop where Game Over was being finished. The shop and truck were both vandalized, as well as a bunch of tools being stolen. This put the final completion date of the project back about three weeks.
The things Shawn found out during the build of Game Over were that his girlfriend really does love him, and there is no such thing as a timeline. If you make a timeline, then it will be broken. Well, Shawn, we hope the build of your truck this time keeps you happy for ten minutes. We know that it will live in the hearts of mini truckers forever.
