Having your mini since before any of Mini Truckin's editors had a license is one thing. To get it featured for its second time, 11 years later, is another. That's right - Kregg Scarcello of Grants Pass, Oregon, graced the pages of our magazine in the Sept. '94 issue with the same '87 Mazda.
This may seem funny, but Kregg's creation has been in its current state for nine years. How this truck has gone so long without being shot again is beyond us. Part of this would have to do with Kregg's busy schedule. Kregg was away at school for four years and has had multiple other projects in the mix for some time. Time for shows is a luxury Kregg doesn't have. If Kregg's Mazdawg gives you wood, it would be due to the fact that he ran over a load of 4x4 lumber that just about destroyed his bed.
Owning a truck as long as Kregg has would be a sin if something didn't go wrong - especially since Kregg's truck has never seen a trailer. This is impressive, considering that Kregg's list of shows attended are Bon-Ton 8-10, Reso dating back to 1991, and Spring Splash back to 1995. If you know a little geography and your run history, this makes for multiple 2,000-mile round-trips.
Building older vehicles such as rat rods is Kregg's current passion. We know he will always have a soft spot for what got him where he is automotively. You never know, in another nine to ten years Kregg's Kreation may grace our pages again with 30-inch wheels, the back-in-style hydraulic Z-rack, magnetic suspension, and a freshly designed Truxarossa body kit. Thanks for holding out for Mini Truckin', Kregg - we won't have our heads up our exhaust pipe for that long again.
