"I live far from the truck scene”, says Canadian resident Dennis Noland, "but I look forward to traveling to more shows to meet more likeminded people.” He isn't kidding about being off in the deeps of the far away land. Take a minute and Google Spring Bay, Ontario—it's legitimately in the middle of nowheresville, and is surrounded by enough water to nearly count as an island.

Now the story of how Dennis got himself into one of the coolest old school model minitrucks out there is one of chance. "I found the truck when I went with a friend to look at a '67 Chevy he was looking to buy. The Courier was sitting in the corner of the yard with a big ugly camper on it. I tried to buy it but he just wouldn't let it go.” What can you do at that point? Can't argue with a dude who isn't looking to sell off his things, especially if he had grand plans for the ol' Ford. "A couple months later, he called me and told me that he and his father couldn't agree on what to do with it. He wanted to modify it and his father wanted to restore it to original condition, but for some reason they decided to sell it to me instead.”

I like the stock look, 14-inch steelies, and greasy engine.

"After blowing up the tires, filling the points, and tossing the camper into his junk pile, I drove it home with lumpy bias ply tires, vintage gasoline, and the biggest smile I've probably ever had. A month later, it was 'bagged.” Dennis ended up with the truck he became infatuated with, and quickly became the odd man out in his small community. "Where I come from, a "custom” truck has 8 inches of lift and 37-inch tires, so naturally mine was an instant oddity in my area.”

Seeing that his truck didn't fall in line with the good ol' boys at home, Dennis packed up and made the 1,400-mile round trip to Ohio for Dropt-n-Destroyed with the same friend who bought that '67 Chevy. "I met some great people and won RPM Hotrod's No Shine award. I've had people tell me that it should be painted with big wheels, but I like the stock look, 14-inch steelies, and greasy engine. After all, it's a driver, not a trailer queen.”
