"In the end, it’s still just another S-10," says Daniel Callahan of his recently completed truck. While there is something to be said about the masses of S-10s out there, there is no denying the fact that they continue to be the most popular mini to customize year in and year out. And when a Dime is done right, it’s tough not to give it its due respect.

Now the story behind Daniel’s S-10 began when he bought it in almost-finished condition. He had spent 30 hours on the road and about $600 worth of fuel to pick it up, but the trip wasn’t a wasted voyage. The paint was only two months old, it had been bodydropped, and the quality of the air-ride work was outstanding. Daniel’s friends told him to just show it in that condition and tell everyone that he did all the work, but that idea just didn’t sit well with him, “I couldn’t take credit for someone else’s work, so I came up with a plan to make it my own.”

First on the agenda was ditching the 18s that came bolted on the truck and making enough room to lay on 20s. Daniel found a set of wheels he liked and started cutting with only 24 hours to go before his deadline—Blooddrag KY ’09. He got the job done, but he didn’t sleep a wink and the firewall was still chewed up, but the mission was accomplished.

From there, Daniel tore down the back half and reworked the setup to his personal taste. The Dime did some time at Thatcher Fabrication for some sheetmetal work and then checked in at Oldies Rod Shop for final bodywork and paint. Now when Daniel first picked up the truck, he had plans to change the “girly” blue paint that the previous owner had chosen, but in the end, he selected the same hue to cover the S-10’s metal again—PPG Porsche Riviera Blue. After a couple hard weeks of reassembly, the Chevy was ready for show, and this time around Daniel had no problem accepting the flood of compliments on his “dime a dozen” build.
