2006 GMC Canyon
There are guys who wait for the stars to align before majorly overhauling their ride. Some will make grand plans and will only see those plans out once the factory warranty expires, and others stack their chips for as long as they can before placing parts orders. Keith Haymore doesn’t fit the profile of either of these two types, and you’ll soon discover just how bad he wished to build the truck that had been dragging through his dreams for so long.
Keith was introduced to minitrucks during his junior year of high school. His mini served as his sole mode of transportation, and he loved the fact that none of his peers had one. But it wasn’t until ’04, when GM introduced the Colorado/Canyon models as the replacements for the long reigning S-series platform, that Kyle admits to being incurably hooked for life. As soon as I saw the Canyon, I knew I just had to have one. I just had to wait a few years until I had the cash to be able to handle the monthly payments.
Finally in ’06, two years after GM’s release of its new midsize pickup, Keith had a chance to score an inside deal on a brand-new Canyon. At the time I bought it, I was working at the local Chevy dealership. The very next weekend after I brought my new truck home, it was completely shaved and covered in light blue primer. Nobody really expected Keith to wait for the right sign before he started hacking up his new ride. In fact, the only thing he was waiting for was to have the keys to his dream truck in hand. Once that happened, it was open season.
The next few phases of change came quick as Keith static-dropped the Canyon as low as it could go before fully ’bagging it just three months after that. I rode the truck like that for two years, but after making good friends with Jeremy Natividad and Glen Lunk, they offered to help body it.
Keith’s Canyon was well on its way to making its debut at the ’10 Forbidden Fantasy show in California, but a little accident presented itself and, of course, made things just that much more difficult. The worst part about the build was when I hit a dead animal on the road while I was doing 75 mph at only 1/2 inch off the ground. Of course, a freak, somewhat disgusting setback like this wouldn’t be enough to slow Keith’s progress, especially once he learned his truck’s presence was requested at SEMA 2010. Since then, this Canyon has been giving Arizona’s world wonder a run for the title.

Front and rear bumpers have both been tucked and pushed in to fit closer to the body, headlamps and taillights have been smoked, and bedfloor has been cut and raised 5.5 inches
