The creation of a minitrucker usually involves getting dragged along to a truck run or club meeting with a buddy. Or for some, it could possibly happen over time with drunken nights full of friends who keep telling you how cool this truck club stuff could be.
But, it's hard to envision it for yourself until you've actually experienced it firsthand. Slowly you accept the fact that you love these little trucks and how awesome they look sitting flat on the ground, not to mention the amazing friends you start making as your journey begins.
Seth McDowell, the owner of this subtle yet killer S-10, was not even thinking about the minitruck scene as he was attending college and interning at the same time. Even as the infamous spring break rolled around and his buddies packed up and took off to Florida for a week of blurred memories, he stayed back to make a few extra bucks. For this mature decision he was suddenly rewarded with someone smashing into his sweet Cavalier. This left Seth with no ride and some insurance money to go on the hunt for something with a little more style for his daily college commute. He stumbled across an ad for a 1998 S-10 with low miles for a very reasonable price, and as you can see in these pictures, something got ahold of him and the truck was not stock for long.
As if going to college full time and starting a career were not enough, Seth wanted to challenge himself by having his S-10 completely customized. He started his process like many of us, getting the air suspension installed and making sure it laid out properly before heading to the paint-and-body shop. It sat at the fab shop for nearly a year before Seth's patience finally ran out and he pulled it to take to another shop. After two months of it sitting at this shop Seth was fed up, so he yanked it and decided to lay down some magic of his own. He designed a one-of-a-kind motorized third door that opens and closes at the touch of a button. In hopes of speeding up the process of getting the truck painted, Seth also went ahead and smoothed the inside of the bed. He took it back to the paint shop where it sat again for another few months until he was at the end of his rope. Trying to find a painter that could deliver a badass paintjob before Seth hit retirement age was becoming more and more unlikely. About to give up hope, Seth came across Jason Sprengel, owner of Sprengel's Innovative Kustoms in Belleville, Illinois. Seth finally found a shop that would follow up on a promise to help Seth complete his to-do list of clean and subtle innovations. As a team, the pair nailed it and finally got the Dime headed in the right direction.
This S-10 is a creation of the owner and a few close friends who set out to build a show truck that is practical enough to drive everyday but custom enough to scoop up some awards at shows across the Midwest. On learning the virtue of patience during the build, Seth says, "Never listen to anyone who says something can't be done. If you dream it, you can do it, and if you can't do it, make sure you find the right person you can trust to keep his word and help you finish your dream."
