Sometimes when you build a show-worthy ride, things don't always go as planned. It can be something we all face like time or money issues, or it can be completely out of your control.
For Chris Beard, or as he is known to his friends, Chris Who, acquiring this 1994 Jimmy wasn't in the plans at all. Chris had been working on a 1965 Ford F-100 that was laying body on 22s when tragedy struck. One day while driving the Effie, it was hit by a bus and put out of commission. Where this would deter most builders, a friend who owned a 1994 GMC Jimmy heard about the wreck and offered to trade Chris his Jimmy for the wrecked Ford. The guy had always wanted a classic truck and this was the perfect chance to get one for a good deal, so he offered up his truck to the capable customizing hands of Chris.
After some alone time to think about it, Chris figured he could do a few quick fixes to the Jimmy and make it a good roadworthy "shop" truck. But shortly after getting the new trade, the front suspension got reworked and some tweaking was done out back. The air suspension was replumbed and rewired so he could be certain everything was up to par and safe enough to drive daily. This truck had actually changed hands several times and had stayed a primered project for quite some time. When it came to rewiring the truck, Chris has a few choice words: "Following anyone else's wiring job is something no one should ever have to endure. It was a bird's nest of wire and airline." But once everything was cleaned up, it was back on the road for some daily cruisin'.
As much fun as it was to cruise around in his new truck, which was 'bagged and primered, Chris knew he couldn't just stop there. A phone call was made to Brian "Lost Cause" Walker for a fresh finishing touch. With several feature paintjobs under his belt, Chris knew he could trust his Jimmy with Brian's artistic ability. A white basecoat was sprayed on the entire vehicle with a blue and chrome-colored trim painted to look like factory molding down the middle. There were also some "Lost Cause" skulls thrown into the mix for good measure. From the trim up, a few coats of blue pearl were added over the white. In the right light, the truck looks like it has a two-tone paintjob, but in normal shade it looks solid white. With fresh paint, Chris was stoked and ready to keep the project rolling through to the finish phase.
Once the paint was finished, 20-inch wheels were bolted up to complete the fresh new exterior styling. Knowing that he was so close to a finished cruiser, Chris contacted Big Body Custom Interiors to stitch up custom seats and wrap a few other panels in the interior. Chris wanted to keep as much of the stock comforts as possible but still have that custom touch of class. After the rear seat was sectioned to fit with the new wheelstubs, Big Body wrapped both seats in blue leather and suede and put the same pattern in the headliner. The carpet was ditched for a new kit, while a few other panels were freshened up and a new billet steering wheel was bolted in to round out the interior package. The last part of the puzzle was a simple stereo system built to bump the cruising tunes. As soon as everything was done, a photo shoot was set and we were the first to bring this fresh cruiser straight to you.
