Throughout high school he constantly talked about one day owning a custom truck that would earn respect on the streets. His dream began back-in 1997 when he finally gathered enough money to purchase the bone-stock Chevrolet from an Orlando, Florida, dealership. After two years on the road, using the truck for local trips and work, James began adding his own custom touches. As an avid reader of Mini Truckin' magazine, he had plenty of motivation to do things the right way. His first alteration addressed the factory high-standing profile of the S-10, solving it with a set of Firestone airbags and fully adjustable air suspension at all four corners tucking the 18-inch Gara chrome deep in the wheelwells.
Over the next five years, James managed to find the rest of the perfect ingredients to fulfill his dream of having a fully custom Chevy S-10. With the help of Rhodes Auto Works in Sanford, Florida, the body was shaved smooth and a cowl-induction hood was installed to bump up the intimidation factor of this S-10. James decided to go for the gold and had the team bodydrop the truck 3 inches. Some added touches include the silver suede and gray tweed seats and carpet along with fiberglass additions to the dash, painted to match the exterior. Once all the mods were complete, he chose House of Kolor Grasshopper Green paint with white and blue pearl accents.
After five long years of perfecting his mini, James is finally happy to see his dream of being featured in these very pages come to fruition. Now that the truck is complete, James has become a regular in the minitruckin' culture, attending shows throughout Florida. His 15-year-old son Kegan plans to continue the family minitruckin' tradition as he is very hopeful that his first vehicle will be his father's one-of-a-kind Chevy S-10. Not a bad start for young Kegan; and if he's anything like his pops, we're sure we'll be seeing more of him very soon.
