When you hear about most three-week builds, they generally involve the word SEMA. The list of modifications can be generally mild, to some wheels, paint, and lowering, all the way to major ones like, body drops, airbags, chop-tops, etc. But that crazy time crunch is generally due to vehicle deliveries to customers, or last minute crunch times. One story you've probably never heard, is a complete rebuild of a previous feature truck in three weeks to make the Scrapin' the Coast show, with the hopes of being shot for the cover of this very magazine!
Well that is exactly what Les Carr and his buddies over at Twin States Customs did! Having completely rebuilt his truck twice already, and receiving previous feature shoots, Les decided it was time to go out with a bang. He wanted to give his high school graduation present from his parents (in 1995) the farewell it deserved. So Les approached the collective group of talent with this idea: "Let's murder out my truck for the Scrapin' the Coast show and go all the way with it!" The only problem was that they only had three weeks to completely transform the dime. But since the talent assembled to complete this task included two previous cover truck owners and other feature truck owners, the crew wasn't worried at all.
They got right to it, and even though there were many late nights and early mornings, Les made it a point to bring his 3-year-old son, Hagan to the shop to hang out with daddy and learn all about the madness that was ensuing. They completely tore the truck apart right down to the frame, and began to jam. The plan laid down was a smooth black exterior with bright red interior and accents. So they did just that. Eli Griffon laid down the slick Jet Black paintjob, after they spent days smoothing everything out. The interior was also a collaborate effort to transform everything from headliner to carpet into the bright blood red that you see here. All in all a killer crew, some great friends, and a lot of work, but Les Carr achieved his goal and is retiring his 13-year excursion with this Dime, in style. Congrats buddy, we're sure we'll see more from your camp in the future, especially when Hagan gets his graduation present!
