Animated Attractions, as with most clubs that host shows, tries to keep one theme going over the course of the weekend: Let's have fun and keep it safe. Show contestants from all over the East Coast converged on the Pitt County Fairgrounds in Greenville, North Carolina, over the weekend of April 25-27 to follow that theme. Packing the fairgrounds were customs ranging from stock to radical and old to new. Vendors were also packed in, offering the latest goodies to enhance your custom dream. Hold on as we take you through a weekend at Slam Session. Slam Session is not in its first year, but this was the first year the Mini Truckin' staff was able to attend to give you this coverage. Starting at one end of the fairgrounds, we worked our way through the aisles of custom rides, snapping pictures left and right. Several rides we captured on film were completed just in time for this show, and the quality of the rides was good. By the end of Saturday, the fairgrounds were filled to capacity. While the number of contestants was impressive, the number of spectators was just as big. When the spectator parking filled up, the crowd overflowed into the highway out front, parking on the sides of the road and in the median. It was a good feeling to see so many people come out to support a show.
The different vendors at Slam Session brought out the latest goodies in the aftermarket world for those in need of some new toys - toys such as a brand-new Harley Davidson V-Rod. No, we didn't take one home, but the display model that the local Harley dealer brought out made us want one badly. Once we were over our daydream of taking the V-Rod home, we visited some of the booths we could actually carry items home from, such as shirts out of the new Drop 'Em Wear? line or some of the new collectible toy cars from Lo Gear.
Saturday night is why Slam Session is famous. With the amount of hype that lead up to Saturday evening, we expected to see quite a bit. After taking a break and cleaning up, we returned to a huge crowd of spectators to see what was up. Things kicked off with guys strutting their stuff to the screams of the ladies in the crowd. Next came the bikini contest, with the ladies giving everyone quite a show. Taking a break from the male and female bikini contests, it was time to hear people from the crowd rap freestyle against one another. Three rounds of intense lyrics produced a final battle on the DJ's mic. In the end, the crowd picked its favorite, and a freestyle champ was crowned. The last event of the evening was the ever-popular wet T-shirt contest, which we'll allow you to visualize yourself.
Slam Session left people with smiles on their faces and plans of returning next year. Make plans to attend next year's Slam Session; we hope to see you there! For more information, contact: Mike or Tiffany, (252) 754-2080; Glenn, (252) 754-2584.
