For as long as Jeremy Railey can remember, he's been hanging out at shows and seeing other killer rides cruising the show circuit in and around the Midwest. When this Columbus, Ohio, resident finally decided to stop sitting on the sideline, he busted out big with a '93 Toyota standard cab that he wouldn't even consider done for another three years after he bought it. The road to building his own killer ride hasn't necessarily been an easy one for Jeremy, and we can all relate to the things that stand in the way of getting a pristine ride finished in a short period of time (read: less than five years!) These days, he's an active member of Negative Camber and spends much of his time at shows having other new hopefuls in the pastime of mini-truckin' oogle his own creation, for a change. The Lowdown
Wheels/Tires 17x7.5-inch KMC Unit wheels with 205/40R17 Kumho radial tires.
Suspension A pair of Belltech spindles was bolted on first, along with some of Belltech's Nitro-Drop shocks that were relocated after Air Ride Technologies 'bags were installed at each corner. To make adjustment of ride height simple, Parker valves were used and plumbed to switches installed in the cab. In the rear, the Toyota was set up with a full reverse four-link from TCI that, like the front, was installed by WiltBilt in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Body Mods/Paint Bewley's Body Works shaved the truck's door handles, hood squirters, rock guards, and mirror mounts. Then, a pair of 4x4 fenders was bolted into place and the truck's headlights were recessed for a polished phantom billet grille. The truck's front bumper was recessed to the same profile as the new grille and trimmed to fit before it was permanently made a single unit with its lower valance. In the rear, the truck was smoothed out even more with the addition of a Sir Michael's roll pan and an Alter Images tailgate skin. When Bewley's had finished its list of body mods for the Toyota, the whole truck was blocked until it was near perfect. Dustin Haven, the owner of Kolor Kreations, sprayed a coat of House of Kolors Limetime Green on the truck. Lastly, a Street Beat sliding ragtop was installed in the roof of the standard cab to open up the truck to extra breeze and 24-hour suntanning capabilities.
Interior/Stereo Inside the Toyota, you'll find Toyota 4Runner seats reupholstered in gray tweed alongside a 4Runner center console. Inserts in the dash were painted using HoK Limetime to match the exterior of the truck. Because Jeremy wanted more than just good looks for his truck, the stereo system in the Toyota also kicks. An Alpine CVA-1005 head unit directs everything, including a CD changer in the glovebox, a pair of Kicker amplifiers, and three Kicker competition-quality subwoofers in the bed that flow sound into the cab via a crawl-through opening. Mids and highs come from more Kicker gear installed in the doors and kickpanels by way of 6-inch and 2-inch mids and tweets.
Performance Overall performance of the 22RE four-cylinder engine has been significantly boosted thanks to a Toyota Racing Development camshaft, an LC Engineering high-performance timing chain, and valve rockers. Additionally, a K&N-tipped intake was used, and a chrome-finish Downey Off-Road header was installed to get the truck's engine breathing its best. A set of Vitek plug wires channels plenty of spark for the engine to make extra horses, and a 2-1/2-inch exhaust system keeps just enough back pressure in the system to ensure that this Toyota can hold its own.
