Making its mark on the show scene as one of the first shows on the East Coast, Layd Out at the Park has grown over the past few years. Being early in the year, the weather always offers its ups and downs. A couple of years ago it snowed during the show, last year it was hot as summer, while this year saw plenty of cloud cover with the threat of tornados and strong hail moving through the area. Luckily for Jeffrey Dillard and his show staff, the severe weather stayed far enough away to make for a pleasant, trouble-free weekend.
Layd Out is held at Cherokee Park in Morristown, Tennessee, and provides plenty of grassy parking for hundreds of show vehicles and rows of vendors. This year, vendors were out in full force again with heavy hitters like Little Shop of Horrors, Lowrider Depot, Drop Em Wear? and SPECKtacular Paint and Graphics. These fine folks provided plenty of merchandise and services for spectators and registrants to browse through and buy while looking at the array of high-end custom vehicles that traveled from all over the East and Midwest.
Live bands and a DJ kept the crowd of 2,500 people rockin’ throughout the weekend, and a Sunday afternoon bikini contest and USACi stereo competition ensured that entertainment options were available until the show’s end. Next year’s event has already been set for April 13-15, so put in for vacation time at work ASAP!
