When a show gets passed from the hands of one promoter to another, it’s always a tough sell to the public. But when it’s a show that has been around for well over a decade and is well known, it makes things a little easier. 2010 marked the first year that the trio of Dustin Ford, Travis Griffin, and Mike McKeever had possession of the Southeast Minitruckin’ Nationals, which turned out to be a truly great event. The show was moved a few times over the past few years and kind of lost its steam, but now that it is in the hands of guys that have big plans for the event, it seems to be back on the rise.
Bringing back the tourist-town feel and legal cruising around town is what the new Minitruckin’ Nats team set out to do when they planned the 2010 event in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. This small mountain town thrives on events like this and provides plenty of shops, restaurants, and hotels to showgoers besides offering some of the nicest scenery on the East Coast. Town officials even got involved and approved a full out drag and cruise session through the public streets.
Competitors and spectators came from all over the East Coast to check out this event and packed the show field throughout the weekend. All of the awards were custom made, including about a dozen specialty trophies.
2011’s show has been bumped up a little earlier in the year to April 30-May 1 in an attempt to avoid the summer heat. This show is only a couple of weeks from now, so make sure to contact the crew for any last-minute preparation needs.
