The fifth annual Sparks in the Ozarks, held at the River Ranch Resort in Noel, Missouri, on October 1-3, 2010, has turned into the show that everyone in the Midwest marks on their calendar as one of the "not to miss" events. People started arriving early Friday afternoon to the showgrounds and started setting up camp and checking into their cabins. This place has everything needed to make it through the weekend. There is a store on site to handle all liquid refreshment needs, two restaurants, and even an open bar, so leaving the premises is absolutely optional. On Saturday morning, everyone came out from their tents and cabins and awoke to the sight of some of the coolest trucks from the surrounding area. Everyone could be heard commenting on just how perfect the location was for a truck show-lots of space, perfect weather, and the river is just steps away from the campsites.
The bikini contest kicked off Saturday night, and the ladies left very little to spectators' imaginations. Afterward, everyone made their way down to Main Street in Noel for a legal dragging session. The street was lined with trucks dragging for hours, and the only flashing lights were coming from local authorities blocking off the street so everyone could enjoy the freedom to throw sparks.
Custom beer mugs were handed out for the class awards, and some pretty cool best-of trophies were handed out on Sunday afternoon. There were even a few special awards handed out in the memory of Dave Swanson and Rusty Topping that left everyone in attendance a little choked up. All in all, it was a great show and you should be sure to make it out to next year's party, which will be held September 30 through October 2 at River Ranch Resort. If it's like it has been in the past, the show promises to get even better with every year.
