"Let's take a break for a while and see how things go." That's something you might hear from a girlfriend but not something you expect to hear from a show promoter. But that's exactly what Jeffrey Dillard said after the 2007 lay'd out at the park show.
That year saw not only a show date that competed with Easter, but a freak snow storm that lasted through the weekend. That's what made Jeffrey decide to take a year off and work hard to come back better positioned for 2009. Not knowing how losing a year between the shows would affect the turn-out, Jeffrey pulled out all the stops when it came time to plan this year's event. It looks like the year off actually worked out in the long run, because there were almost 700 vehicles in attendance for the return event. With vendors packing one of the hilltops of the spacious Cherokee Park in Morristown, TN, there were plenty of goodies for everyone to browse and buy, along with plenty of custom vehicles spread around the park. Traffic started early Saturday morning getting into the show and stretched for almost eight miles. We knew as soon as we saw this that we had a busy weekend ahead of us snapping show photos and lining up the best feature vehicles that we could. The air was filled with numerous bands playing on the amphitheatre stage throughout the weekend. Saturday night was home to a main street get-together right in the middle of town. There were bands playing on the closed street and several restaurants around for an after-show meal. After sitting back and taking in the weekend's events, we couldn't have asked for a better show. The weather was perfect, and there was no snow, so it looked like skipping a year let Mother Nature get things right. Check out the Lowdown, and for more information, email Laydoutshow@yahoo.com.
