Friday afternoon I was sitting in a seminar with a bunch of computer nerds when my phone blew up asking me if I could go to Louisiana, that night.
The show photographer was sick and they needed someone to fill in. I knew my wife would probably kick my butt, but of course I was down to help out. All the arrangements were made with the promoter, and at 2 a.m. Saturday morning Jacy, Kustom (my dog), and I rolled into Lafayette for Relaxin on the Bayou. It was a good sign that the parking lot of the hotel was packed with trucks and there were already people prepping for the next day's activities. We rolled into the showgrounds first thing Saturday morning and there was a long line of trucks waiting to register. This was another good sign because we had never been to a show in Louisiana and we weren't quite sure what to expect. What we found was an amazing show put on by a club who is no stranger to truck events--Relaxed Atmosphere. With over 450 vehicles for their first show in Louisiana, this will be an event to look out for in the future. The show had something for everyone, including Bayou food with vendors selling almost any kind of animal on a stick you could think of. Don't get me started on food in Lafayette. For breakfast, you have to hit up Mel's Diner for the best biscuits and gravy in the world. This place is so well known that when I asked for a recommendation, a jiffy-mart cashier said he'd buy my breakfast if I didn't love it. For lunch and dinner we recommend Pizzeria Venti for some of the best pizza we have ever eaten. We tried almost one of everything. Combine Lafayette with a show that is definitely kid friendly, and you have a great weekend that has a little bit of everything for the whole family. We will see you there next year.
