The 5th anniversary of Scrapin' the Coast was held at the traditional Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi, and despite on-site construction and remodeling, the crew of Scrapin' the Coast managed to fill the area with more rides than imaginable. Having foreseen the trouble with the remodeling, registration and judging started Friday. It was handled off-site in a drive-thru fashion, in the parking lot of the host hotel a half-mile from the show. This allowed the staff to open more of the show grounds to vehicles and vendors. This year the first-time rides and vendors were allowed to setup inside the coliseum, which was a super-nice way to step out of the heat and into the A/C from time to time.
The weather decided to give us a few surprises, but nothing that couldn't be handled. After enjoying the show Saturday, we headed out to the after-party and bikini contest at the Gulfport Dragway. After the sun went down, it was time to kickoff the bikini contest and, as it does every year, it drew a ginormous crowd. Not too many of our shots can be shown legally in this mag; as you know, if you've been to the STC show before. Let's just say, bikinis become an option fairly quick. Also worth mentioning is that the party at the dragway isn't the only party in town during STC. There's always tons of people hanging out in front of the hotels, Greenville-strip style.
Be on the lookout for more on this super sick Isuzu.
Les Carr's '87 S-10 was rebuilt yet again, stay tuned!
This Tacoma is as clean as they come. Stay tuned for the full feature in a future MT mag.
Wrapping up the show on Sunday, the STC crew once again handed out some of the coolest Best Of and Club Participation trophies around. All of the Best Ofs were custom-painted wakeboards, while the club trophies were 8-, 6-, and 4-foot surfboards. Everyone wanted to win and show those things off, for sure!
Next year's event is already in the works and the remodeling of the coliseum will be completed by then. It's going to be bigger and better than ever. Keep your eyes peeled, and check out scrapinthecoast.com on the web for all the details.
