What could you expect to find in your stocking-er, that is-your welcome-aboard package? The NOPI schedule gave a rundown on the excitement ahead, ranging from the multi-format stereo competition to the mobile dyno with prizes for the winners. Drifting demos and hop-offs added to the fun, along with triple-elimination burnouts and babes in bikinis. This show had it all and then some. With visions of trick trucks and NOPI chicks dancing around in our heads, we began to understand why this mid-September event takes on a holiday status of its own.
Show Lowdown
Name: NOPI Nationals
Location: Atlanta Motor Speedway
Dates: 15-17 September
Total Vehicles in Attendance: 7,000
Spectator Attendance: 111,000
Fast 411: Everything was bigger at NOPI, from the nonstop hourly attractions to the Sunday afternoon award ceremonies. There were seven show divisions with more than 300 classes and cash and prizes that exceeded $100,000. Also, a staggering 1,169 trophies went home to their proud new owners.
Events: Catering to every automotive taste, the event package included everything from ladies' touch football to the General Motors Ride and Drive opportunity. Most folks began with a long leisurely walk around the infield, admiring one of the coolest collections of vehicles on the planet. We checked out the rides, but kept an eye on the schedule so that we didn't miss the hourly favorites. A lot of folks said the live entertainment that featured an evening concert with Ludacris was worth the price of admission alone. Adding icing to the cake was Funk Master Flex, Skid Row, Kudzu, Eleven Standing Still, Silence is Broken, Flame, Haze, and more.
Sponsors: NOPI, X-Box, and Chevy Cobalt
Vendors: Tons of major manufacturers and dozens of vendors were on hand selling everything imaginable for your truck.
