Slamfest is the perfect ending to a killer show season in the Southeast. The show is at home in the Florida State Fairgrounds and takes over what used to be the home rink for the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team. This year Slamfest pulled over 7,000 people and 1,200 vehicles into the town of Tampa for one spectacular weekend. Spectators enjoyed the bright sunshine of warm October mornings and then sporadically thundery, rain-strewn afternoons as a mild performance of Florida's bipolar weather gave us a good show. To keep the crowd entertained throughout the weekend the Mini Madness crew hosted all kinds of wild events including a burnout contest, a dB Drag Race, and of course, a bikini contest. Vendors and sponsors like AVE, Car Stereo Warehouse, DC Customs, Domination: The Video, Hornblasters, Hotridesmag.com, Mad Mark's Stereo, Mini Truck Cartel, Scrape-N-Customs, Street Options, and Suicide Doors were on-hand to sell discounted parts and other assorted mini-trucker items all weekend long.
With one eye to the weather, the Mini Madness team moved up the awards ceremony on Sunday to help everyone leave the show dry before the sky dropped another load. Jenn Lacey's Pink S-10 "Chix Ride" took home the honors for Best of Show Mini and she added another victory to her 2005 reign. Many charities were also winners. Mini Madness is a very charitable club and looks out for members of their community. With the crowd's help and the help of many awesome clubs and shops, money was raised to help the Lifestyles crew finish their tragically departed club member's ride in his memory. This was the coolest display of mini-truckers pooling together as everyone pitched in to help a club in need. Also, part of Slamfest's proceeds go to deserving organizations and this year supported various non-profit organizations providing hurricane relief.
