After two years of helping out with the Southeast Showdown in Anderson, South Carolina, at the Anderson County Fairgrounds, John and Allison Fulmer decided to take over the show's third annual gathering. A few days before the show, two hurricanes threatened to hit Florida on the same day and make their way up the East Coast - straight for the show site. It was possible that this could ruin the turnout but, fortunately, didn't affect it at all. On Friday, the second hurricane hit Florida hard, and luckily for the show, the storm's path tracked to the east of the venue.

Saturday morning started out rainy, but cleared up before 10 a.m., which worked out well because this was about the time the competitors started showing up. Once the rain had quit, the weather was perfect for checking out the nearly 300 rides that showed up from all over the region. After the day events wound down, the DJ announced that the night events were starting around dark at Twisted Metal Works, a custom shop right behind the show grounds. The DJ continued the party well into the night as people made a few passes to see who could throw the most sparks. They had a cover charge for this after party, but it included the cost of food, drinks, and beer.

Sunday's events started out with cloudy skies and wind that stayed around for most of the day. The conditions kept the heat down and kept sunburns from getting worse. Weather wise, the show went well considering one of the year's biggest storms was moving up the East Coast. After all the awards were done and the Best Truck Award was handed out to David Burke for his S-10 Blazer with a polished motor and a full patent leather interior, John and Allison began discussing how to make the '05 show better.

Plans for the '05 show have already been made; this time the show will be held before hurricane season. The dates have been set for July 23 and 24, 2005 and will be back at the fairgrounds. But be prepared. The show will be even more packed with things to do. For more information, check out www.southeastshow down.com or e-mail Johnalli@bellsouth.net.
