The first Big EZ Motorfest was held November 13-14 at the Zephyr Baseball Stadium in Metairie, Louisiana. Being centrally located was the key to success for this first-year show because people came from all the neighboring states, some even as far as Southport, Florida. The Big EZ presented the perfect mix of big-city entertainment and small-town hospitality.
Friday night was setup time for all the vendors, which then led to after-hours fun. Saturday morning brought with it more than 140 vehicles and at least 1,250 spectators. With many vendors on hand and a few Monster Truck special appearances, the daylight quickly came and went. Nevertheless, the Big EZ Motorfest was just getting started, because as the sun set, it was about time to meet up for the Saturday-night Poker Run. We all met at the show and pitched in $5 for our chance to win the pot. As we each drew our first card at the showgrounds, Clyde from Silver Star drew an ace. From there, we drove through town to our next meeting spot while playing musical trucks and tag at the stoplights. After a few stops, we landed at our final meeting area for the after-party at the Beach House Bar and Grill. After checking everybody's cards, Clyde took the pot with his winning hand, and we moved onto bigger and better things, such as the wet T-shirt contest. After Saturday night's festivities, it was time to catch a couple hours of sleep.
On Sunday, more rides showed up, along with a whole new crowd of spectators. There was a burnout contest, stunt bikes, and a few go-karters to keep the crowds entertained while the results of the show were being compiled. A blood center for a blood drive was also set up and a charity auction was held for cancer research. Since Clyde is a sucker for good causes, he donated airbag suspension parts, VIAIR compressors, and other accessories to the auction. Xtreme Bedliners gave away a free bedliner, and Katzkin Leathers gave a leather kit away. Advance Auto Parts also donated a load of parts and goodies, and Chris from Kustomz Ink modeled some of her donated apparel. When the awards were tallied, Kenny Keller walked away with the custom Best of Show trophy from Signworx.
