The Lake Charles Civic Center is home to the Midnight Fantasies Lake Front Tour. Every year, there are a few can't-miss shows held in the dirty South. This show is definitely one of them. However, because of Louisiana's peculiar weather, you can never tell whether or not it's going to rain. Many die-hard mini-trucker, though, jump into their trucks and make the trek, no matter what the weather looks like. It's a good thing they do, because this Southern show is so big, people come from many neighboring states and continually fill the showgrounds year after year.
We were blessed with perfect weather at the 2004 show, which brought out more than 12,000 people and 500 vehicles. Saturday morning, the showfield was packed from end to end. Custom-vehicle owners, shops, vendors, and spectators filled the civic center inside and out. Vendors such as Drop 'Em Wear?, Ekstensive Metal Works, Kustomz Ink, and Phlat Out DVD brought out boatloads of custom parts, clothes, and video entertainment. Dominoes and other food vendors were on hand as well to take care of everyone's hunger and thirst. After attendees had their take of food, shopping, and fun, they could easily spend all day wondering the showgrounds and drooling at all the laid-to-the-ground minis.
Throughout the entire weekend, Roger and his hard-working crew organized all kinds of super-cool events to keep everyone entertained. There was a Monster-truck crush demonstration, rock climbing, a USAC Crank-It-Up stereo competition, the famous Saturday-night cruise (with tons of dragging), and the very infamous Babes in Bikinis contest. We had such a blast at the show and found so many cool mini-trucks and their owners to hang out with that we almost didn't want to head home - almost. Our new Louisiana friends, while very hard to understand, are a fun group, which gives us the perfect excuse to come back year after year.
