Eager students of slam once again packed the halls of the Marion County Fairgrounds for the 5th annual Slamology car and truck show presented by Chassis Tech and hosted by Gauge Magazine.com.
Despite the slow economy and threats of rain, more than 500 participants and double that in spectators made the journey for one of the Midwest's most anticipated events. Striving to be more than just your average truck show, Slamology features more than 20 live bands playing on the huge center stage, with everything from rap to rock music. If live music isn't your thing, Slamology has that covered too with their Air Zenith Triple Points DB drag race providing ear drum shattering bass throughout the day. A huge water slide kept spectators and participants cool in the warm June weather, while the Pro Hopper hydraulics contest showcased some of the best lowriders found throughout the Midwest. Saturday's class schedule ended with a little lesson in anatomy thanks to the Motorsports Revolution bikini contest on the main stage.
After a quick cleanup from Mother Nature's wrath Saturday night, Sunday's events continued without a hitch. Clubs were given the opportunity to show their club pride in the Club Olympics, not only for bragging rights, but first place winners received $25 gift certificates to The Finish Line for their efforts. Sunday afternoon brought about the award ceremony, giving Bill Gain's '95 Chevy Truck top honors with the coveted Best of Show Heavy Weight Belt award. With the announcement of the cancellation of several large events in '09, expect Slamology to be even bigger and better. Who says class can't be fun?
