The summer of 2006 really seemed to be bringing the heat, so we decided to escape north for a little cooler weather to check out iLLconformity's second annual Summer Shocker held on Saturday, June 24, 2006. The show took place at the Sturgeon Creek Collegiate in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
We chose to fly into North Dakota to make the road trip up north with Ernie, Kyle, Trevor, AJ, Steve, and the rest of our North Dakota buddies. Little did we know that we were in for an adventure. The roads leading into Canada were worse than any we've ever seen. Then, on top of that, we got stopped at the border and proceeded to get the full immigration abuse. We still think it was all Ernie's fault, but either way it was definitely an experience. After we walked off the damage, we continued to head north. The roads got worse and worse until at last we arrived in Winnipeg. We pulled into the very first gas station we saw to relieve our bladders and just as we did, the front passenger wheel broke off of Kyle's Caprice and rolled all the way to the pump! Yeah, the roads were so bad that all five studs sheared and the wheel tore through the fender to make its escape. Fortunately for us, mini-truckers always stick together and in no time someone already had a tow truck there to take Kyle's car back to their shop for repair. At this point Kyle and the rest of the crew were already over working on the car and just wanted to go hang out, so we left the car and cruised to the pre-party/BBQ. We had a great time partying with Corey and the entire iLLconformity crew before we finally headed back to the hotel to rest up for the show.
Well, to our surprise when we woke up and wiped the sleep out of our eyes and rolled to the show the Caprice was already fixed and at the show! Now, that's service! Special thanks to Shane and everyone who helped. And that wasn't the only surprise at the show. There were more than 200 custom vehicles lined up row after row for this charity event (which for a small Canada show is huge). The show was in support of Cancer Care Manitoba, and at the end of the day it raised almost $4,000 towards the charity. The talk of the show was a secret drag session that took place as the sun was going down. Eric's S-10 dragged its heart out and ended up blowing its motor. After the sparks flew, it was time for the after-party at the Assiniboine Hotel, where things got pretty crazy.
Corey went out of his way and had more than 40 custom laser-cut trophies, including specialty awards like the illChoice Award, the Hard Luck Award (which went to Kyle for the troubles with the Caprice and his weak compressors), Hard Ryda Award, Club Participation, Cancer Care's Choice, and the Mini Truckin' Editor's Choice, which went to Paul Lacey and his Viper Red B2200. The iLLconformity crew would like to thank all the sponsors that helped make the show possible, including Princess Auto, House of Kohler, Cutting Edge Graphics, Steve's Auto Detailing, WPG's Most Wanted, Southside Customs, Line-X, and Birchwood Pontiac. Corey would also like to thank all those who came out to support the show, including Mini Truckin' magazine, Domination the Video, Low Life Video, and everyone who drove from out of town to support the show. He also said he couldn't leave out all of their girlfriends for looking good and helping out with all the stuff for the show.
