Just after their 2008 show, with eleven years under their belt, the Pebble Pushers crew knew they had to step it up and do it again in 2009.
After meeting with the Concord Speedway and all the Pp club members, their September weekend was booked and everything started to flow perfectly. Sponsors were round up, artwork was knocked out, and the flyers were printed and distributed at every show possible. But about a month before the show started, rain seemed to be more common than the sun. Knowing that the show must go on, rain or shine, they just plugged away at the final details and hoped for the best. The sun decided to come out the Friday of the show and the Pp crew hurried to make sure any last minute changes and set ups were done and ready for the Saturday morning roll-in. Around midnight, storms started to move through the area and it was looking like a washout at the speedway. Luckily, the big storms took a northern route and completely missed the show. There was however, what we could only describe as thick fog throughout the day on Saturday which managed to keep everyone's rides looking like they were covered in morning dew with some scattered showers every so often. But that didn't stop the huge kickball tournament that led to some serious shenanigans. That night, the draggin' contest was scheduled for the pit row of the race track and looked more like a splash contest, but there were plenty of contestants and die-hard spectators willing to brave the rain.
Sunday morning was a different story altogether. We woke up expecting more of the wet stuff but were pleasantly surprised to see the sun out again. Just goes to show that not matter how much you plan, how huge previous shows were, or how much you advertise, the one thing that you can never control is Mother Nature. Despite the wet weather, the Pp crew still managed to pull some of the nicest vehicles on the East Coast just like they do every year. For next year's event we hear they're working on building a bubble over the East Coast to ensure perfect weather. Wouldn't that be nice!
