When Pebble Pushers throws a show, you can bet it's going to be a big turnout, with tons of mini-trucks in attendance. That's exactly what the club got for 2004. This show gets bigger and better every single year, and this gathering was no exception, with more than 500 vehicle entries and more spectators than the event staff could count. The show was held at the same place as in previous years - the Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
One thing about SCR8PFEST that stands out is the fact that as the quantity of rides grows, the quality seems to get better by the year. You can also camp right on the show site, giving the show that unique truck-run quality, where people can not only come to check out all the topnotch rides but can also hang together all night long and catch up on old times. A big section around the showgrounds had plenty of room for tents and campers for those who didn't want to miss any of the action.
The Pebble Pushers is well-known for throwing one of the biggest and best draggin' contests anywhere. Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, people started lining up on either side of the dragstrip to make sure they'd get a good view of the more than 40 rides that entered to throw sparks while the onlookers cheered. The winners received a set of titanium blocks and a trophy that said, "Hell yeah, I drug my truck at SCR8PFEST VII." On Sunday, the Pebble Pushers crew also held a hydro contest, along with a burn-out contest that created enough smoke and actual fires that the local fire department actually got a few phone calls.
When it came time to hand out the awards on Sunday afternoon, people were happy to see some of the most unique awards around. Some awards that really stood out and made this show a one-of-a-kind event were the unfinished trophies. Being that these trophies are going to unfinished rides, it was fitting that the trophies also lacked the finished look. The colored bars of the trophies were primered, and the trophies were taken apart and put in a box so that just like the ride they were given out for, they still need to be finished and put together. This was one of the Pebble Pushers' many special touches to the show.
Before the show was even over, the Pebble Pushers club was already making plans for this year's show. Mark your calendars and plan on being back at the stadium the same weekend in September 23-25.
