It seems that the mini-truck scene has had a heck of a time holding on to any decent shows here on the west coast over the last few years. Take, for example, all of the awesome river run shows at Parker and West Coast Nationals that thousands would flock to a few years back and that people took for granted. Well, something had to be done about the lack of good West Coast shows, and Lake Havasu seemed like the perfect place to remedy the situation.
After months of planning and preparation, dates were set for the first Havasu Spring Break. Anyone who knows much about Lake Havasu, Arizona, knows that besides for the London Bridge, there are plenty of other attractions during spring break. Such a wild venue was definitely the perfect time and place for mini-truckers to take advantage of, bringing out their rides and enjoying all that Lake Havasu has to offer.
On Saturday, once all of the trucks were parked and staged in the show grounds, the owners began cleaning their rides. However, after most people realized that they were in Lake Havasu during Spring Break the usual two-hour wheel polishing routine was dropped in exchange for a cold 12-pack and a dip in the river. The whole atmosphere was exactly like the old river runs that we have grown to miss. Everyone was there to have a good time, and the people were fairly controlled and not causing any major ruckus (the main reason we've lost numerous shows over the years). The weekend was a blast, and the truck show was a huge success with more than 200 trucks filling the grounds.
For all of the awesome trucks and the spring breakers, there were plenty of other things to keep everyone busy until late in the night. LBZ came out to give the crowd a scare with their death defying Moto-X stunt riders, and there were all kinds of vendors offering one-time-only show deals. When the show grounds emptied each night, the meeting spot was Kokomos, a local nightclub. There was a wild LBZ bikini contest, where the bikinis turned out to be optional, and the showgoers were able to hangout all night long.
This show is definitely one of the coolest shows we've attended. Make sure you don't miss out on all of the action next year. We'd like to thank all of the companies that made the show possible including: Action Audio, Adam's Polishes, American Racing, Arizona Northwest RV, ATS Design, Auto Air Colors, Black Magic, Brand 1 Clothing, BTW, Discount Tire, General Motors, Giltronix, Havasu Custom Inc., HBS Truck Accessories, J.C.
