Lake Charles, Louisiana, is one of those places you'd probably never hear about unless you happen to be a custom or gambling junkie. Interstate 10 runs through the heart of Lake Charles on the western side of Louisiana, and once a year it is home to the Midnight Fantasies' Lake Front Tour.

With 10 hours of driving behind us, we arrived at the Travelers Inn in the pouring rain. Our spirits started to rise, however, after seeing the parking lot filling quickly with custom rides and some friends we hadn't seen in a couple weeks. After getting settled with our accommodations, we headed for the show grounds. The Lake Charles Civic Center is home to the Lake Front Tour. Entering the show grounds, we saw the Midnight Fantasies' crew doing last minute preparations, classifying early arrivals, and helping vendors get situated for the next morning. It might have been raining, but the weekend already looked like it was going to get hot.

Saturday morning the show field was packed. Custom vehicles filled the spaces inside and outside the civic center. Everything from slightly custom to full-blown, in a variety of classes, was on hand to be enjoyed by the spectators and competitors alike. The little space not occupied by show vehicles was left to the various vendors' booths.

Vendors such as Edge Custom Wear, Neckhead Customs, Ekstensive Metal Works, and Drop 'Em Wear? were present -- just to name a few. Custom parts, clothes, and installs could be purchased readily. Domino's and other food vendors were on hand as well to take care of participants and attendees.

OK, so you've gotten your parts, your belly, and your clothing situation taken care of. What's left? If you were into motorcycles, Voodoo Racing was on hand doing exhibitions on mini bikes, crotch rockets, and even four-wheelers.

A handful of babes strutted their stuff during the bikini contest to the watchful eyes of the crowd and the ever hard-to-please judges. Other events were squeezed in as Mother Nature took a break from showering.

By the time Sunday rolled around, we were definitely glad we had made the journey to Lake Charles. Our new Cajun friends, while a little difficult to understand, were a cool group of people to hang out with. Lake Charles should be on your show calendar for next season.
