Fun and games, cash, and cool custom vehicles were just the beginning for the 2001 Southeastern Nationals held at the Jacksonville City Fairgrounds in Jacksonville, Florida. The dozen members of East Coast Customs invited all their friends to their fifth annual show to see a great combination of the IASCA Sound Challenge, a hydraulic exhibition, and a wild Bikini Contest. The air-conditioned indoor and the shaded outdoor displays, the great food, and the collection of vendors with the latest accessories for your car or truck proved to make a great weekend get-together. Judges got their work done Saturday so that they could enjoy all the Sunday games. Club Tug of War sorted out the weak from the strong, and while disc jockey P. J. Payne cranked out tunes, the Panty Hose Truck Push tested the balance and dexterity of the players. The Hydro Exhibition, showcasing both hydraulic and air-powered vehicles, put on a show for the eager crowd. However, the real spectator event was still to come. Ten of the area's sweetest Southern Belles vied for First Place and a $500 prize. Gathering the most applause was the way to win, and when the noise died down, Diane Bonafete took the cash.
Darren Mincey was especially glad he came to the show, because his House of Kolor Tangelo Pearl '91 Blazer, equipped with Firestone airbags, Colorado Custom 17-inch wheels, a chrome engine, and much more, captured the award for Best Mini-Truck of Show. East Coast sent many more truckers home smiling just like Darren, giving away 200 trophies to the vehicles present.
Many clubs also helped to make the show a success. These clubs included: Mini Madness from Brandon, Florida; Hard Core from Orlando, Florida; the Individuals Car Club from Central Florida; Wicked Illusions from Gainesville and Jacksonville, Florida; Mini Creations CC from Jacksonville; and the winner of the Club Participation award, New Movement, from Jacksonville.
East Coast Customs donates part of the proceeds from its shows to several local charities. If you'd like to be part of the club's weekend get-together as well as a worthwhile cause, mark May 4th and 5th, 2002 on your calendar. You can get even more information from Gary Young at (904) 997-8380.
